Plan For Success
Arrive on time to make the most of your session. Please have your clothing grouped together by outfit and on hangers. Bring multiple outfits (formal and casual) that express who you are. Get a good night's sleep

Do you have some ideas?
This session is for YOU, so come prepared with anything that might help us understand what you are looking for in your photos.

Clothing Colors
Bring multiple outfits (formal and casual) that express who you are. Try to avoid stripes and plaid. Solid colors photograph much better. Be sure to vary your clothing color choices and consider the most flattering styles. This will ensure that you will be able to be photographed on a variety of backgrounds.
  • Plan each outfit from head to toe!
  • Please avoid sleeveless tops and bubble shirts and skirts.
  • Don't choose clothing that is too baggy, and don't choose clothing that is too tight.
  • Consider your favorite formal dress or suit in addition to more casual styles.
  • Bring your sports/activities uniform, letterjacket, or costumes and accessories as well.
Hair
Avoid changing your hairstyle or cutting your hair right before your session. Haircuts should be made at least a week before your appointment. Highlights should be touched up approximately one to two weeks before your session. Quick easy hairstyle changes during your session are okay, but make it quick or you loose camera time. Don't use a lot of hair product when you come in - Your hair should move with you and be natural. Don't forget your hairbrush or comb, and bring hairspray for those extra flyaways!

Make-up suggestions
If you need to put on make-up or style your hair at the studio you will need to arrive early enough to be ready at your start time. Apply concealer and powder if necessary to minimize blemishes. Portrait retouching on your final order can eliminate small blemishes and under-eye circles.
  • Avoid dark eyeliner that encloses the entire eye - it makes the eyes look much smaller and appears very unnatural. Make sure that your mascara is new and fresh to avoid clumpy lashes - they WILL show in your photos!
  • Don't go without anything on your lips - Lip color should be natural and complimentary. Chapped lips will show, so please take care of this prior to your session.
  • Bring translucent face powder to combat any chance of oily shine on your skin.
  • Avoid glitter on the skin.
  • Avoid old and chipped nail polish - your nails will be showing in the photos!
Complexion
All of your finished portraits will be retouched so don't worry about pre-session breakouts or nerves.

Weather for outdoor portraits
If it rains on the day of your session, we can reschedule the outdoor portion of the session or trade for digital effects on photos.

Tanning
DO NOT overdo the tanning bed or sun. Limit sun exposure prior to your portrait session avoiding burns or tan lines. At least a 3 day rest from tanning before your session is advised.

Don't forget your props
Props help to define who you are. Consider bringing letter jackets, uniforms, sports equipment, and musical instruments to express your interests, making your portraits personal.

Class ring, Ipod, sunglasses, cell phone, laptop, anything that shows your favorite activities, anything that might show your future major in college, collection of shoes if you are shoe collector, shopping bags from all of your favorite stores, favorite drink, favorite books if you are an avid reader, Pets are welcome (but please tell us before you arrive), and we can even use your car or dad's motorcycle! (make sure it's clean!) Be creative!
